Sparks of Space Debris
2025 | installation
Video footage (3:22), space debris data, 32-inch display, bluetooth speaker
This installation sonically and visually represents a series of hypothetical collisions between orbiting satellites or space debris. I explored the sense of distance between humanity and space, the inherent dangers posed by space debris, and tried to raise issues about the future state of the space environment.
The data used in this work consists of publicly available satellite orbital data obtained from CelesTrak. CelesTrak is based on “Space Situational Awareness” data, including sources such as Space-Track.org.
While the work holds a meditative and calm atmosphere, the subject matter involves violent collisions and destruction of space debris. Through the sensory gaps and feelings of incongruity that emerge within this piece, I aim to communicate a shared responsibility for the overall problems inherent in this topic.
